The calendar provided, once filled in, helped me to adequately understand just how much of a "workload" I have ahead of me. It also helped me find a balance between school, work, and leisurely activities. In my case, I work around 25 hours a week, and have 15 credit hours. If I have roughly 6 hours of homework a week for English, 3 hours of homework a week for 2 of my classes, and 1 hour a week for the other 2, this creates 54 hours (roughly) of non-leisure activities a week. This leaves me with a total of roughly 65 hours a week of time to spend besides school, homework, sleep, and work. Commuting alone however brings this total down to around 55 hours. It seems like a lot of extra time, but really, it isn't.
If I need to, I will create extra time for this class by cutting out hours of sleep, or hours of leisure.
Upon reading Tyler and Annelise's calendar reflections, I can see that I am not the only one at least vaguely stressed out about the college course load and the amount of time I will have to spend studying/working at home. I am slightly more busy, or so it seems, than these two, but we all have our obstacles to get past in order to be successful in school.

Chloe, I think it is incredible and extremely admirable that you are able to balance work with school. I need some more time to adjust before seeking out a job, but I wish could jump into it like you. I definitely relate to your stress in finding time for homework; I think all of us are in the same boat! My hope for you is that you find some time- however small- to relax and recharge before getting the necessary stuff done. For me, this improves my productivity and the quality of my work.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading about your schedule, it is very clear that you have your priorities in order. I think it will be very helpful that you to know just how many hours you have delegated to certain activities. My suggestion would be to not cut back on too much sleep, as this can create problems such as decreasing your efficiency. I also can relate to your stress on how demanding school will be this semester, but in my opinion, organization is key. As long as you find time for yourself along with your schoolwork, I think that you should have no problem completing your assignments!
ReplyDeleteChloe, I couldn't even imagine trying to work right now. This first week of college I've been very stressed out and trying to schedule all my homework around my classes, so it just blows my mind that you can do it with work too! I think finding different areas to study around campus will help me so that I don't have to spend as much time walking places, but I'm still stressed for time during the day.
ReplyDeleteBut anyways, I hope you have a wonderful and stress-free first semester!
